This past weekend, Delaware hosted the 2011 USA Ultimate Founders Club Mixed Sectionals at Alapocas Run State Park. A huge thanks to our very own Andrew Wisor for putting everything together and pulling off a great tournament. Our two Delaware teams, DErty People and DElirium took part in the event. DErty People finished 4th overall, with a berth to Regionals. DElirium finished with a respectable 15th place tie. Congrats to all players and thanks to all helpers.

Game days

Every Thursday, and every other Tuesday, beginning on June 2nd. Finals will be on Sunday, August 2nd.

Where

All games will be played on the Alapocas Run State Park (same place as spring league). All teams will play at the same time.

How much, what do I get?

$35 gets you 1) a disc, 2) a team jersey, 3) 14 games of ultimate, 4) end of season tournament, 5) end of season party, 6) heckling supplies at the tournament, 7) FUN FUN FUN! more fun. That’s eight exciting items for one low price of $35.

Who can play

Women and men over the age of 16 at the beginning of registration. No experience necessary!

Third Annual Hat Tournament-UPDATED

UPDATE-3/25/11

In the event of inclement weather, the tournament may be cancelled to help prevent damage to the fields. If the tournament is cancelled, information will be posted to the Delaware Ultimate Yahoo Group (see the right sidebar to sign up), and the Delaware Ultimate Twitter account (www.twitter.com/deultimate). If you don’t hear anything, then assume the tournament is still on!

Check in for a small, fun hat tournament. Randomly assigned teams will decide who rules Delaware Ultimate! New players are welcomed and encouraged. Tournament is on Sunday, March 27th at Alapocas State Park at 9:30AM.

Beginner Skills Clinic

Delaware Ultimate is holding a FREE skills clinic aimed at new players but open to everyone on March 20th. Fundamental skills like throwing, cutting, offense and defense will be taught. Afterwards there will be a pickup game aimed at helping beginners learn the flow of the game.

The clinic will start at 1pm and go until about 4pm. If you have cleats, bring them along with some water.

Spark Mention

Today, March 2, Delaware Ultimate was mentioned in Spark. The article highlights the fun of Ultimate and how the league runs. If you’ve found yourself here after seeing the web address in the magazine, welcome! There is one correction to the story. It is mentioned that all women can register for free, when in fact it’s only women new to the sport. If you’ve never played in an Ultimate league before, you can skip the registration fee (you still need to pay the $10 yearly insurance) and get right to the game.

Be sure to stop by our skills clinic on March 20 at 1pm at Alapocas Run State Park. Players of all abilities are welcome, but the clinic is geared to learning the basics of Ultimate. That clinic is free.

Pickup games will likely start after the daylight saving switch. Check the Pickup section for more information.

Spring Season 2011

Here is the info:

* 10 fun games and a final tournament. All games will be played at Alapocas Run State Park, in Wilmington.

* Games are on Sundays, from 1 to 3 (or 1 to 5 on weeks with double headers). Games start April 3rd, and run through May 15th. Final tournament Sunday May 22nd!

* Receive the brand new 2011 Delaware Ultimate disc, designed by our very own Kev Dubrow, man of mystery.

* All this and tons of FUN for just $21! PADA membership required for insurance ($10). Register by March 21st!

Other important details

* 7 v 7 ultimate. This league is co-ed. The ratio will be 5/2, or if captains agree before game, 4/3.

* Sorry, this is an adult league. You must be over 16 by 4/3/2011.

* Registration closes on March 21st. Men will be capped at 104 entries, so register quickly to ensure play.

* We need CAPTAINS! Please indicate in registration if you would like to captain. Preference will be given to co-ed pairs, and experience.

* We need WOMEN. If you know an athletically inclined, or fun inclined, woman who is looking for a fun, physical activity that is sure to get the heart rate up, let them know about us! See below promotions for encouragement — free beginner’s clinic to learn about the sport, free registration to try it out a season.

* Baggage! We are relaxing baggage a bit for this season. New-to-ultimate players are always allowed to baggage with experienced player, and couples may bag together. All games are played at the same time, in the same place, so carpool baggage is not allowed.

* FREE FOR NEW WOMEN! $21 registration fee will be waived/refunded. Use coupon code NEWDE at checkout. This is only for NEW WOMEN.

* BEGINNER’S CLINIC. Free beginner’s clinic on March 20th, 1PM, Alapocas Run State Park. Paper registrations will be allowed during the clinic.

* HAT TOURNAMENT! Dust off the cobwebs. Meet new players! Come to the Second Annual (weather permitting) Delaware Hat Tournment, March 27th. More details to come. We will allow paper registration at the hat tournament, but fee will rise $5, until we have reached our maximum registration.

* Help us! We have some great postcards to shower over the region. If you could leave postcards at your workplace, your gym, your yoga class, where ever co-ed type people hang out, please get some postcards! I will have many, and I’ll be giving the to lots of other folks to distribute — Andrew, Pat, others. Email me (joshua at DelawareUltimate dot com) if you’d like some.

…A! Thanks to Dustin Daminao for this wonderful drawing. Dustin is also responsible for creating the Delaware Ultimate video (bottom right on the homepage) as well as having wonderful hair.
